Media Row simmers as the IPL date nears.

CHENNAI: The Editors Guild of India has rejected the Indian Premier League’s revised terms and conditions for media accreditation to cover the forthcoming DLF-IPL Twenty20 matches.

K.S. Sachidananda Murthy, Secretary General of the Guild, said: “The revised terms and conditions which have been put up on the IPL website still contain clauses which are unacceptable to the media and would seriously affect the independence of the editors, especially when it comes to selection and use of photographs. This was reported in The Hindu today.

It is simply unacceptable to the newspapers and news agencies that they must submit all their pictures should be made available to the IPL free and global use by the IPL.

The Guild has written to IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi to reconsider the decisions of the IPL which if implemented will affect the independence of the judiciary. A copy of the letter was also sent to Sharad Pawar, the BCCI head and union minister for Agriculture.

The Hindu in an editorial was scathing in its attack of the IPL. Saying IPL in its greed for money is imposing outrageous conditions on the media which is not acceptable under any circumstances.
